Animal figurines

— JH

These were in my nan and grandads house until the day they died. They were in the bathroom with loads of other random animal ornaments that I would stare at while I was on the toilet :’) Due to a family dispute, when we went to pack up the house these were the only things left.

To remember my grandparents with love and appreciation

Kept

This memory has been kept

It stays on the shelf, held and witnessed.

“Keeping because it’s nice to have something physical and real that was theirs. Their hands were the last to hold them… even if they were just sat on a shelf.”

Questions to sit with

What happened to you around this object?

What does keeping it protect you from — or connect you to?

If you let it go, what would you lose? What might you gain?

Whose memory is this, really?

These prompts follow Ian Porter's approach — compassionate curiosity, asking “what happened to you?” rather than “what's wrong with you?”.
